Veronica felt as if she was being thrown into a long dark cavern. It really didn't bother her. She liked big dark caves. What bothered her was how she got here. "Bas? Are you here?" she asked, then made a high-pitched sound to see what was around her. She saw Basilius flying nearby. "Where are we?" The spirit world, he told her, flying even deeper into the cave, I am taking you to meet my elders.

The Dark Lord sat in a high backed chair stroking the leopard sitting at his feet. When the two were first bonded, it was a beautiful spotted cat, but at the time of betrayl he became a solid black spirit who couldn't be seen by anyone except his Master. That's what the first war did to him, and so it was. "I feel a new pawn coming." the cat said.

Rafe moved swiftly through the brush, chiding Lana to hurry up. He does not like to be kept waiting...hurry, Lana... I go as I see fit. She retorted, but knew that Rafe was right so she sped up.
After a few moments, Rafe arrived at the hidden cavern and nuzzled Lana to follow. Stepping quietly, the two headed inside, wondering if it was a good idea.

"Lord, they come." the cat said. "Hello Lana and Rafe, how are you two this fine day?" he asked. His voice was a smooth as honey, but his tone was so horrible, there are no words to describe it. "You've returned to me like you promised Rafe, now will you introduce your partner to me?" he asked mockingly.

Ariadne sat deep within the darkened forest. The ground upon which she sat sanctified by the blood of innocents. She gave praise to the dark gods as she felt her master near. 'Soon.' she told herself as she centered her powers. The black widow slowly crawled up her arm to her shoulder, resting as they merged their minds. Ariadne's eyes opened, glowling red in the darkness as she reached out around her. She raised an eyebrow as she spoke to Vania. "He has visitors. Interesting." She held her hand to the spider as Vania crawled slowly onto her outstretched palm. "Indeed." she told her. "Perhaps we should find out more?" Vania looked at her with her many eyes reflecting Ariadne's face within them. "I do not know if that would be a good idea. You remember what happened the last time you tried to eavesdrop on the Master?" Ariadne smiled as she remembered his wrath. "Oh but I do." The evil smile spread wider. "It was the most exquisite torture I have ever felt. The master is truly adept at wielding pain. It is almost worth angering him to feel it again...almost." she said as her mind touched upon the memory. She rose, moving closer to the cavern. Her mind reaching out as she smiled.

Rafe bowed to the Dark Lord with his fore front paws. He rose and nosed Lana. "This is Lana. I believe she will serve you well." Rafe told him. "She has many skills that will be useful to you." Lana stared at the Dark Lord, trying to compare him to all the mob bosses or clients she has worked for, but none could match the sinister and chilling spirit she sensed from him. But if Rafe trusted him, she would too; besides, they both wanted the same thing: Power. "Hello." Lana inclined her head in respect.

"Hello darling." the Dark Lord said as Lana bowed. "Rafe, where did you find this extraordinary young woman?" he asked. This woman would be a valuable tool, but nothing more than a tool. Flattery will get you everywhere with women he thought.

Ariadne found the entrance to the Dark Lord’s sanctuary and moved to enter as Eavan stepped from the darkness to block her path. “Just where do you think you are going?” Evan asked her as she stood her ground firmly. Ariadne looked at her and dismissed her quickly. “Not now pet. I have no time to play with the Dark Lord’s little lap dog.”
She held her hand up to push Eavan out of the way but Eavan grabbed it, flipping her wrist as she twisted the arm behind her and took her quickly to her knees. Before Ariadne could react, Eavan’s blade was at her throat.
Ariadne’ screamed in anger and rage as the girl forced her to her knees. She felt the steel against her neck as she sneered. “Now pet. The Dark Lord will be angry if you needlessly kill one of his warriors.”
Eavan sneered as she watched the witch. “Not so much I don’t think. Why are you sneeking around?” Ariadne looked indignant as she tipped her head back to look into the girls eyes. “I’m not sneaking.” She said as Eavan felt a blade pierce her calf. The witch disappeared from her grasp, reappearing behind her. Eavan had it with this one. She turned and summoned the magic within her and sent it into the witch. It hit her like a brick wall as she flew back into the Dark Lord’s chamber, crashing into the wall.
Eavan entered the chamber limping slightly. Blood flowed from her calf where the witch had stuck her above the boot. “Forgive me my Lord. This one was sneaking around outside and wouldn’t cooperate when I asked her to leave.” Eavan inclined her head slightly to him. Ariadne scrambled to her feet, quickly returning the blade to her flowing gown. “Forgive me my Lord. I do not know what this whelp is talking about. I was merely walking by and she attacked me.” Ariadne inclined her head as well to the Dark Lord.

"SILENCE! I do not care either way. Both of you are now wounded and I'm not going to heal you." he said. He turned slightly to look into the fire that was burning. "Eavan, my dear, how goes the mission with the one called Caleb?" he asked her.

Eavan glared at Ariadne as she turned her attention to the Dark One. “It is going as expected my lord. I have worked my way in to his confidence. He has a high sense of honor and righteousness. It will take time but I will turn him…no matter what I have to do.” She lowered her head slightly as she kept back out of his way. Eavan dreaded appearing before him. She was careful not to incur his wrath. Her experiences with him in the past had been…unpleasant in many ways. She felt the slight shiver run down her spine as she stood in his presence.

Rafe smirked. "She found me, my Lord." He replied simply. Lana stood in silence, cringing at the sound of the Dark Lord's voice; there was something...odd about it. Plus, she didn't like the compliment he seem to flatter her with....flattery meant that they wanted something...and usually it wasn't something good. Mustering her confidence and arrogance, she finally spoke. "With no disrespect, sir, but I've been around a lot of people and learned that flattery is superficial. I'm here for one reason and one reason only; I want to be recognized for once. I want to feel like I belong to something...and gaining Power is what will get me what I want. So...can you..." She would have said "can you help me or what?" but her sentence was cut off by the sound of crashing and tumbling of bricks. Turning around, she saw a woman being blasted into the dank chamber, followed by another. They both gave her a shiver; she sensed something sinister. She watched and listened quietly as one of them, Eavan, began to talk about some mission.

"Yes Lana, you will be recognized, I promise you that." the Dark Lord said. He smirked at the thought of having Caleb on his side in the way. He needed him to complete his plan.

Eavan smiled at Lana as she looked the girl over. She wondered if the woman knew exactly what she was getting herself into. Eavan had known only the inner world of the Dark Lord. She had been raised within the evil clan and spent much time around him in both realms. She shivered as she saw the visions, both of the past and of the future. She knew the true identity of the Dark Lord. The one before he betrayed his friends. She had seen that betrayal of the Hunter and the Huntress, the one that launched him on his current path where he reigned supreme over the dark clan.
His actions that fateful day could not have been foreseen by the Dark One. The magic that the Dark Lord had gained when he killed the Huntress had been what he needed to take the seat of power from the Dark One. He had fallen to the blade of the Hunter but that too had been preordained by prophecy. He would kill to receive her power then rise to his full power after being slain by the last of those he betrayed.
Eavan shivered harder as the vision replayed within her mind. She saw the daughter of the Hunter and Huntress within the Dark One’s arms. She had marveled at how the Hunter had fought alone as his love lie in a clearing where she had fallen during the battle. Her screams had stilled even the sounds of battle as she gave birth, then fell silent when the Dark Lord’s blade pierced her heart. The Dark One had taken the child, returning to the Spirit realm. The Hunter had watched in terror as he ran to her. Tears fell from his eyes as he ran his blade through his friend, tossing him aside and holding her within his arms as he screamed in agony. He had taken her with him to a cave somewhere in the Spirit realm, laying her to eternal rest within it. Eavan had not been able to see the exact location of the cave but had guessed it to be of importance because the Dark Lord pressed her often to try to hone the vision to find it.
The vision always ended with the Hunter coming unarmed to the Dark One. The promise made… his daughter’s life if he turned to the Dark One’s service. Before the Hunter arrived, the Dark One battled with the Dark Lord, reborn in the black magic of betrayal, sealed by the death of his true love. His greatest secret had been that love for her. The Dark Lord ascended to his power that day as he defeated the Dark One. His plans where much different than those of his predecessor and when the Hunter came, the Dark Lord put him to death and kept the child close. He had bred her with only the strongest, smartest of the clan. Although she was raised with a place of high honor, she really was nothing more than breeding stock as he built his army. Each of the children born into the line had unique abilities, but not the ones that he had hoped for…that is… until Eavan. He had hope for her as her powers developed. Eavan knew that he had something planned where she was concerned but her visions were shadowy and murky. She could not see her own path clearly.
Eavan blinked as her mind cleared. Shaking the visions from her mind, she turned her gaze on the Dark Lord. “My Lord,” she called, her voice slightly wavering, “with your permission I should return to Caleb. He will become suspicious if I am gone for too long.”
Ariadne watched with contempt. She knew of the Dark Lord’s favor for Eavan and now apparently this new woman Lana as well. Her eyes narrowed as she watched the two women. She would need these two out of her way and to find her brother if her plans were to be successful. She looked at the Dark Lord as she spoke. “I must also ask for my leave Great One. I still track Adrian to return him to the fold. With your permission my Lord.” She awaited his dismissal before leaving.

"Everyone is dismissed, except Lana. Lana, we must talk about your abilities and services before you leave." he said simply. With a wave of his hand the two women dissappeared in a puff of black smoke. "Now Lana, do you have an special abilities that I should know of?" he asked.

Lana was surprised at the sudden disappearance of the two women. "Rafe has already taught me how to bond with him....I've been able to improve my five senses because of him. I am known as the Coyote in my world; one of the renown thieves. Basically, I know how to get in and out of something and survive on my own with my skills. But..." She paused before continuing, "it's not sufficient enough. Rafe has told me of special...supernatural....skills that could benefit me. He didn't or chose not to elaborate." She glanced at him, but he just looked away, afraid of what she was asking for.
